Metro West was my first experience with Florida Golf and I kind of liked it. Coming from The Central Valley of California the course was kind of different in that it was lush and green all over the course. It had deep rough off the fairways which was a challenge that I have never come across. The greens were bermuda which took some getting used to in that they were a lot grainier than I was used too here in California. Overall the course was fun to play and a great golf experience for me. Besides, lunch and a beer were included in the package that I had.

After my stay in Orlando it was time to go to The Tampa-St. Petersburg Area. This time I thought that I would try a good muni in the Tampa-St. Petersburg Area so I asked around in the local golf shops. Mangrove Bay was suggested almost unanimously. I was not disappointed after my round at Mangrove Bay. The course was in better condition than I expected for a muni as the fairways were very green and the greens putted true. I was impressed with the pro shop staff as well. Should I get back to St. Petersburg, Mangrove Bay will be on my play list.

Buffalo Creek was a blind choice. I don't know, the name sounded kind of different and I wanted something a bit out of the ordinary. This course is kind of a working man's course stuck out in the middle of nowhere. You kind of have to want to play it to play it, although I'm glad I did. I hooked up with three regulars and spent a marvelous day of golf and fellowship. I enjoyed the course. There was nothing fancy about it but the course played fair and it was a lot of fun. Water is on the course and comes into play, but not in a way that doesn't make sense. As far as the condition of the course, it was a bit sloppy as I played it right after a heavy Florida rainstorm that had come through the day before.

My daughter lives in Fulton, Missouri so on a recent visit I took along my sticks. I did my research and found out that there was a pretty decent golf course near where she lived. So, I took a day and played Tanglewood and was very happy that I did. I loved the course. It meandered through the gentle rolling Missouri countryside with some pretty cool holes. I especially liked the par threes. One thing that was different for me was the bunkers were filled with a fine crushed red brick. I had never seen that before. The greens putted well.

Washington State is as green as they say it is. When I went up to Spokane to see my new granddaughter, of course I had to fit in a round of golf ant one of Spokane's three municipal courses. MeadowWood was the choice, although I was told that any of the three courses would be good choices. I wasn't disappointed. The course was in immaculate condition. I have not seen such green fairways. They were lush and there wasn't a bad lie anywhere my ball landed. The greens were fast and true. Most of the course is flat and very few trees. It is billed as a links course, but I wouldn't go that far. The back nine is a bit different from the front nine and the course makes a nice change as far as tree lined fairways on the back nine. Holes 16, 17 and 18 make for an interesting and challenging finish. I highly recommend MeadowWood when you are in the Spokane area.

How did I wind up in Canada playing golf? You find out the whole story by going to the "My Travels" page on this website and clicking on "This Must Not Be Cabo" link. It explains it all but this was definitely a good twist of fate. Maifair Lakes was a good find. The course was flat and enjoyable to play with greens running fast and true. The views of the City of Vancover were pretty neat as were the views of the surrounding mountains. Of course there were many lakes on the course-why else would they call it Mayfair Lakes but what I thought was interesting about the course was the shared green.

What can you say about a golf course that several holes are just step from a Pacific Ocean beach. Not much I would think. The course was flat but there was a lot of water to navigate. Overall the fairways were generous, the greens were fast and the course was a challenge. How can you not like a course where the crashing sound of the Pacific ocean on a nearby beach fills the air.

Bajamar is an interesting property. There are three nines here The Oceano, Lakes and Vista. I have not played the Vista nine and am not in a hurry to play it because the Lakes and Oceano nines are two of the best nines I have ever played. The Lakes course is a "desert style" course with plenty of sand and natural lava and desert off the generous fairways. The Oceano course starts as a fairly flat desert course and thend goes down for a couple of holes right on the ocean. The nickname for the course is Mexico's Pebble Beach and when you play the Oceano nine, you can see why. The first time I played the course it was in immaculate condition. The fairways were lush and the greens quick. The second time I played it, they had just aerated about two weeks before and the greens were slow. The fairways are generous, but you don't want top go too far off into the rough or past the rough into the lava. The par 3's are very picturesque and a lot of fun to play and my favorite hole is a par 4 that you have to carry a barranca that is just in front of the green. I have to book another cruise because I would like to play Bajamar again.
